No Man's Sky is seven years old and its next update is ed Echoes

It has now been seven years since No Man's Sky was released, which means there have been seven years of post-release updates. In a trailer released to celebrate the anniversary, Hello Games teased the next update by giving it a name: Echoes.

There's no further information about what the update will contain, although a tweet about the trailer did underline just how many updates there have been for No Man's Sky by listing them all.

No Man's Sky launched not as an incomplete game, but as one that focused on solo interplanetary exploration and resource gathering in a largely empty universe. It wasn't the game people wanted - or the one they felt they'd been sold in trailers and developer interviews. (This problem would have been solved if more people read my preview when the game was announced.) (We enjoyed it at launch anyway.)

That core loop (land on the planet, zap, and scan stuff, gather resources, fly to a new planet) is still present, but No Man's Sky's updates have broadened and deepened the experience almost beyond recognition. There's multiplayer now, base-building, mechs, flying creatures, a better story, seasonal challenges, and even giant sandworms. Hello, Games continuing to add more to the game only makes sense, given it's still being played by thousands of people on Steam at any given moment.

Blockchain Game Investment List – Hungri Games raises $1.9 million on $23 million valuation

Turkish game developer Hungri Games has announced a $1.9 million seed round with a valuation of $23 million. Formed in 2019 and previously known for its F2P mobile titles, Hungri is now working on web3 games, notably its forthcoming Polygon-based horse racing RPG Metahorse Unity, which is launching its first NFT mint on 31st August.

The round was led by local investor Bogazici Ventures, who alongside UA outfit Triple Dragon previously invested in the company’s 2019 funding round. Other participants included local incubator Roko Finance, Presto Labs, and angels such as The Sandbox’s Sebastien Borget and Erol Ozmandiraci, Oyunfor Tanriverdi, and Caglan Tanriverdi who previously worked on projects with Hungri.

South Korean web3 developer Delabs has announced a $4.7 million seed round, which was led by wewell-knownocal VC Hashed. Other investors included local developer Planetarium (Nine Chronicles), Polygon Labs, Spartan Ventures, and Merit Circle.

Delabs is part of web2 developer 4:33 and is working on three blockchain games including the forthcoming Rumble Racing Star.

Singapore-based game developer Eyeball Games has completed a $1.5 million pre-seed funding round. Led by White Star Capital, the round also included Polygon Ventures, Immutable, and Singaporean VCs Ocular and GSG Ventures.

Eyeball Games was set up by the team behind the highly successful 8 Ball Pool. Currently, the studio is working on web3 titled Eyeball Pool, which was recently announced to migrate to Immutable’s Polygon-based zkEVM platform.

Top 3 most anticipated blockchain games

Medieval PC strategy game Blocklords has been in development in various stages since 2019, which is a prime example of the complexity involved in building not only a game but a fully decentralized on-chain game economy.

With blockchain elements a secondary feature, the main focus is on deep and fun gameplay as well as a strong community. Blocklords’ early community beta build launched earlier in 2023 and has proven to be a success among its 5,000 players.

While launching its Prime Eternal NFTs in early 2022, Champions Ascension has undergone more than just a cosmetic makeover. In the beginning of 2023 the team developing the game spun Plai Labs out of Jam City, raising $32 million in the process.

In addition, and perhaps more significantly in terms of its web3 aspects, Champions Ascension then migrated fully to Polygon, which means NFT holders who want to play the game have to move their assets from Ethereum to Polygon. Despite this, the skill-based combat RPG has continued to be one of our most anticipated blockchain games, thanks in part to the attention to detail it’s taken on its setting and world lore.

Part of the ChampionsVerse service on the Oasys blockchain, Champions Tactics‘ high profile is inherent as its status as the first web3 title from leading game developer Ubisoft. Players seem assured of a certain standard of gameplay, which is what the blockchain games space has increasingly demanded.

A handful of teasers is all that’s been revealed about the game so far, but it’s been described as a tactical PVP RPG revolving around mythical champions, battles and legends set in the mystical world of Grimoria.

Web3 gaming promises to be a critical driver for mainstream NFT adoption over the next few years. To put the scale into perspective, the blockchain gaming market size is expected to grow from $4.6 billion in 2022 to $65.7 billion by 2027. Many of the biggest game developers — including Square Enix and Epic Games — are already working on titles with Web3 integrations. That said, it takes years for any game to be developed, let alone a AAA game. So the space will only heat up as these projects come to fruition.
